Lake Buffalo Spillway and Outlet SCADA Upgrade – Regional Water Utility

Project Management of the upgrade of the SCADA system at the Lake Buffalo – Spillway and Outlet.

Our Client is Australia’s largest rural water corporation and manages the country’s largest irrigation delivery network. The service included all Project Management responsibilities for the project from project initiation to completion of implementation.

Scope Of Work

  • Preparation and tracking of Program Schedule
  • Preparing Communications Strategy and Project Risk Log
  • Preparation of Quality Management Strategy
  • Prepare and maintain Cost Control using ‘Finance 1’
  • Updating of reporting data in EPM and to stakeholders
  • Co-ordinate and chair project team meetings
  • Preparation of Brief and coordinating all required design, software integration, manufacture, procurement, and site installation activities
  • Preparation of site commissioning procedure and coordination of all site commissioning works
  • Arrange preparation of Operation & Maintenance documentation.

Project Challenges

  • Not having a 3rd party integrator available dedicated to the task resulted in the project timeline stretching. Both GMW and the SCADA contractor were under resourced at the time to deliver the project
  • The summer bushfires and the COVID-19 pandemic made difficult the timing and access to the site.

How We Managed This

Commissioning was successful, however a data communication problem was detected during SAT, and SCADA contractors were engaged to help solve a communication ‘data bursting’ problem.
