Stephen is the CEO and Director of MAD3 Engineering. He has over 30 years of experience in leadership roles, including 16 years at Chubb Security and 15 years at McDowall Affleck.

He is a results-oriented leader with a strong focus on employee development and client satisfaction. Stephen has a proven track record of success in strategic planning and execution, and has been recognized for his leadership with the Gary Affleck Employee of the Year award twice. He holds an MBA and has completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors course. Stephen is also an active community member, having served on various boards.

Alberto is a highly experienced Chartered Professional Structural Engineer with over 30 years of industry experience. He founded and managed Studio Techné srl in Italy before relocating to Australia in 2007.

He has a strong track record in leading engineering teams and delivering successful projects. His experience in Australia includes involvement in various roles in the following projects: Perth Airport Terminal 3 interim expansion, South Hedland MultiPurpose Recreation Centre, ASKAP, Dampier Salt Operations, Matagarup Bridge, Forrestfield Airport Link, Snowy 2.0, Flat Rock Wind Farm, Channel Island Power Station and various other renewable energy projects. Alberto is a Chartered Professional Engineer in both Italy and Australia and has been a valuable member of the MAD3 Engineering team since 2014.

He is a former soccer player and currently an amateur triathlete having completed the Half Iron Man/T100 distance four times since 2021.

Michael is a highly experienced civil engineer with over 30 years at McDowall Affleck. Michael has a proven track record of success in delivering successful and cost-effective civil engineering solutions.

He specializes in drainage design and construction, particularly on challenging sites.

Michael supports the successful delivery of client expectations by leading a team of 10 civil engineers and designers, alongside an additional 6 engineers and designers within the structural team. His expertise includes:

Drainage Design: Solving complex drainage issues for various clients, including local authorities. Land Development: Managing all phases of land development projects, from design and tendering to Superintendence.

Road Design: Expertise in road design, earthworks, and traffic management.

Construction Management: Experienced in all aspects of construction project management, including contract administration and supervision.

Geotechnical Investigations: Investigating and remediating geotechnical issues, such as cracked houses and undertaking Site and Soil Evaluations.

He is an active member in local sporting clubs as a coach, ex-president, committee member, volunteer and participant playing AFL for 50 years.

Ben Stockden

Ben Stockden
Senior Project Manager, Mechanical Designer

Ben joined MAD3 Engineering in 2006 and has progressed steadily through a variety of roles across the business. He holds Diplomas in Civil and Structural Engineering and Project Management while continually developing his skills through ongoing professional training.


He began his career as a Trainee Draftsman, working on both civil and structural projects, before transitioning into a Structural Designer role. In this position, he gained experience across residential, government, commercial, and industrial projects. In 2017, Ben moved into the Mechanical team, leveraging his combined design and project management expertise.

Throughout his tenure, Ben has taken on progressively senior responsibilities, including roles as Production and Commercial Manager for both the Mechanical and Structural teams. He is currently the Senior Project Manager overseeing the Mechanical and Structural departments.

In 2021, Ben became an owner of MAD3 Engineering, reflecting his long-term commitment to the company’s success.

Outside of work, Ben is an active member of the local community, participating in cricket, football, netball, and golf, and volunteering his time as a committee member at the Swan Athletic Sporting and Community Club.

Structural Team Lead, Structural Engineer

Ben Read is a Structural Engineer and Structural Team Lead at MAD3 Engineering with five years’ experience in structural design and project management.


He has a strong focus on Safety in Design, compliance with Australian Standards, and the use of advanced software and modern techniques to deliver safe and efficient design solutions.

Ben completed a three-year graduate program with MAD3 Engineering and transitioned into his Team Lead role in 2024 where he leads a team of 7 structural engineers and designers. He holds a Bachelor of Science (2018) and a Master of Professional Engineering (2021) from the University of Western Australia.

Ben specialises in steel, concrete and timber design; complex load assessment; temporary works engineering; third party verification; and site inspections and has worked on a number of large-scale infrastructure projects including; Snowy 2.0, Garden Island Defence Upgrades, Curtin University building upgrades, Midland Train Station and Flat Rock Wind Farm.

With over 30 years of specialised experience in mechanical design and manufacturing, he has continually advanced Deacon’s reputation and, following the merger with McDowall Affleck, now contributes his expertise to MAD3 Engineering as Engineering Director Mechanical. In this role he leads client relationships, mentors engineers and contributes to key design decisions.

Jurrien’s deep technical knowledge spans FEA, fatigue, and dynamic analysis, and his hands-on involvement in designing complex systems—such as crushing plants, cranes and lifting equipment, and bespoke machinery—reflects his commitment to quality outcomes and innovative solutions.

Jurrien has a proven track record addressing critical plant reliability issues, including vibration and fatigue cracking. Tim has 25+ years of experience in Mechanical Engineering design, fabrication, and installation of process and mechanical equipment.

He has been involved with the engineering and management of significant engineering design and fabrication projects particularly within Western Australia for the mining, mineral processing, and oil & gas industries.

Tim commenced his career working in large manufacturing workshops producing boilers, pressure vessels, rolling stock, and mining equipment which provided invaluable experience in heavy plate fabrication, welding, non-destructive examination, and heavy machining. This experience is now applied not only in advanced design and assessment work but also in fitness for service assessments and specialist inspection as a certified AICIP inspector.
