Joshua Mews subdivision – Darling Plateau

33-lot subdivision which required experienced engineering to meet the constraints associated with the laterite soils.

MAD3 Engineering (formerly McDowall Affleck) was engaged for this task and to perform inspections during the construction period to ensure the design intent was maintained whilst making alterations on site to suit the rock profile as it was exposed.

Scope Of Work

  • Design and documentation of all earthworks, roadworks, drainage and water reticulation
  • Provision of underground power and telecommunications to all lots
  • On-site effluent disposal
  • Design of a 700m external water main extension to bring water reticulation to the site.

Project Challenges

  • The natural ground had a lot of rock to contend-with
  • Manage the expectation of the downstream of adjoining land where discharged stormwater goes into existing valley lines
  • Construct in stages so that the previous landowner could maintain access to existing residence
  • Protection of habitat trees.

How We Managed This

  • Designed the stormwater to ensure that the development flows onto adjoining/downstream landowners was maintained
  • Walked the site during the preliminary and detailed design stages to understand the site topography and features
  • Designed road levels to minimise rock excavation
  • Completed an early engagement meeting with a potential contractor to gather construction advice and to develop solutions that were economical from an engineering and construction perspective.

Value Engineering

MAD3 produced efficient designs that met the project constraints.
