Gidgegannup Town Site

Port Bouvard Ltd planned to develop the Gidgegannup Townsite to deliver a vision and commitment to creating a sustainable land development, based on sound planning and design principles to drive sustainability for the community.

The master planning for the site required engineering advice for earthworks, roads, water and sewer reticulation (through a private wastewater treatment plant), telecommunications and power services whilst utilising urban water management strategies and sustainability initiatives.

Scope Of Work

  • Servicing report for proposed 1,500 lot master planned townsite
  • Assistance to the masterplan engineering
  • Planning of services, roads and drainage Community consultation through workshops

Project Challenges

  • Servicing the site with reticulated water was complex due to getting potable water to site from the Mundaring to Kalgoorlie pipeline, some 11 km away.
  • Water balance for the site to determine winter storage requirements for the treated waste water that was excess to public open space requirements.

How We Managed This

MAD3 Engineering (formerly McDowall Affleck) undertook a water supply demand calculation for the townsite considering various options including 3rd pipe for irrigation purposes for each lot as well as pos, rainwater tanks to keep down the infrastructure pipe line and water tank sizes and costs.

Value Engineering

MAD3 used our extensive hills experience in dealing with rock to guide the master plan and provided options for the reuse of rock on site for roads and drainage construction.
