Forrestfield Airport Link

MAD3 Engineering assisted the Salini Impregilo-NRW Joint Venture during the construction of the Forrestfield-Airport link 9 km tunnel boring project. MAD3 Engineering was requested to provide design and third-party certification of temporary works including lifting studies, lifting equipment, steel platforms, pipe supports, plant equipment supports and foundations.

The scope of work included Design and third party certification of temporary works; Lifting studies and installation procedures; Lifting equipment; Steel platforms; Pipe supports; Plant equipment supports and foundations.

project challenges included quick response times; information required from third parties; lack of site-specific geotechnical information requiring conservative assumptions. We overcame these by leveraging on our office location being close to site and dedicated liaison engineer for the project; proactive approach and good communication with Salini Impreglio – NRW JV team; optimised design to meet conservative assumptions.

The real key was the value engineering on the project including timely response of MAD3 dedicated engineer avoided site delays; optimised design of foundations for heavy plant equipment; flexible design approach to include material available on site and contractor’s preferred installation process.
