Level 4 treatment was required due to pathogen contamination. Equipment included Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection unit and Ultra Filtration (UF) package.
WestWater tendered for execution of this project and engaged MAD3 Engineering (formerly MA Deacon Engineers) to provide engineering services for mechanical and structural concrete engineering, with the detailed design for the site integration.
Scope Of Work
- General site layout design and mechanical integration
- Hydraulic design and 4x pump selection review
- Piping, structural concrete, concrete pads for the tanks, earthwork details for pits, site earthworks set-out, hardstand design, electrical design
- Technical management of switchboard designer/manufacturer
- Technical management of solar designer/installer
- Western Power liaison
- Electrical site layout and building internals, cable schedules (both power & instrument/control/comms).
Project Challenges
- Verification/ Validation of Preliminary Design that was performed by others
- Solar designer provided the information for WestWater to make the regulatory applications
- HVAC design: Air conditioner unit sizing by supplier engaged by WestWater
- Drawings prepared in accordance with DS80 and DS81 and delivered to WestWater for them to deliver to end-customer Water Corporation.
How We Managed This
MAD3 have a good understanding of the Water Corporation standards and have completed many engineering and detailed designs (including under D&C contracts) for the Water Corporation.

- Pipe diameters were derived from the Water Corporation Pipeline Selection Guidelines, and in the absence of information and where a variety of inner dimensions were available, the smallest was taken.
