Staging Pond Pumps & Piping Design – Tier 1 Iron Ore Miner

Pumping infrastructure installed in two ageing lined ponds needed to be relocated to an adjacent new larger pond being built.

The arrangement comprised 2x Godwin HL250 self-priming pumps with MCC attached to skid and a single 1250kVA genset, 2x submersible Higra pumps with MCC, with two gensets to power each pump, and HDPE pipelines from the pond running approx. 7 km to the discharge point.

Scope Of Work

Mechanical:

  • GAs, detailed drawings and P&IDs
  • Design allowance for backup pumping
  • Incoming pipework design incorporating flow metering.

Electrical, Instrumentation and Automation:

  • GAs and detailed drawings for genset powered pumping with consideration for possible future powerline supply
  • Pumping and generator control and status to be fully automated on CPM Citect
  • SCADA: all genset, pumps and instrumentation into a single PLC enclosure with link
  • Telemetry to SCADA and cubicle to be solar powered
  • Develop Functional control description (FCD)
  • Update all existing drawings onto CPM templates
  • Arc Flash Assessments.

Project Challenges

Early stages of development of the effort led to multiple changes to the scope of works by the Client.
